McCain cancels Letterman because of crisis

Well, that's what ol' Johnny said anyway. It turns out he was just down the street talking to Katie Couric. Oops! Can this guy become anymore of a joke? Word is that Letterman tears into him for it. I'll be watching the show tonight.

He wants to postpone the Presidential debate so he can run around Washington pretending to solve the financial crisis in an effort to look more presidential. The crisis is a situation that other lawmakers have been working on all week in negotiations that McCain has had no significant part in at all. Harry Reid said today that he doesn't want either candidate there right now, dragging presidential campaign politics into the midst of tense, difficult, extremely time-sensitive negotiations.

Now the McCain campaign is saying they want to postpone the VP debate too. So let's recap:

They've been shielding Palin almost entirely from the press since her selection.
They got the VP debate format changed to have shorter answers and less time for back and forth between the candidates.
They now want to postpone both the presidential and vice-presidential debates.

It's very clear that the McCain campaign does not want to deal with any tough questions about major issues facing America. They want to make this election about the same old cultural wedge issues the Republicans have been using for many years now. It's their only chance to win.
