Don't speak ill of the dead? Bah!

"Bryan was a vulgar and common man, a cad undiluted. He was ignorant, bigoted, self-seeking, blatant and dishonest." -- from H. L. Mencken's obituary for William Jennings Bryan, July 27, 1925.

Read the entirety of perhaps the most vitriolic obituary written here.

For comparison, check out Hunter S. Thompson's brutal obituary for Richard Nixon. (May 1, 1994). Thompson held Mencken's work up as the standard to which he aspired on this piece.
