Sad that it's even an issue

The media has been heavily covering the objections to the construction of a Muslim mosque community center two blocks from ground zero in Manhattan. How sad for our nation that it's a controversy at all. Islam did not attack New York on 9/11. A particular group of radical fundamentalists did. We are a nation of many races, ethnicities, creeds, and beliefs. Why are so many here in our great melting pot so willing to give in to bigotry? Polls are saying 70% are opposed to the mosque. Sad.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the Republican party is attacking Democrats over this mosque. As usual the Republican party is perfectly willing to encourage bigotry for their own political gain. It's sick. They are an embarrassment to our nation and I can only be disappointed that so many in my country go along with it.

By the way, there's already a mosque about four blocks from ground zero and it's been there since 1970.
