Personal news? yep, bought a house

Oh, you mean when people have blogs they usually update them with what's going on in their lives? Damn. I suck at that part. Actually I suck at updates in general.

So toward the end of March I finally bought a house. You mean that's pretty big news for me personally? Yeah, I guess it is. For going on eight years I stayed in apartments, not inspired enough to bother buying a house. Actually I thought I would get out of Fort Wayne so it wasn't worth doing. Well... I'm still here. So I gave in and got the house. Finally. Don't get me wrong though, it's a good thing. The house is excellent. Sure I finally have to mow a lawn (d'oh!), but it's very much worth it. I've become a Lowe's customer as I find odds and ends that I need for a home.

In other news, last week I headed to Munster, Indiana, a little town by Chicago, for this year's Dark Lord Day at 3 Floyd's brewpub. I bet it's the biggest beer release party in this part of the country and maybe in the whole country. Hundreds of people, maybe a couple thousand, I'm not sure, turn up for the release of this incredible brew. I got there just before they started selling it at noon and stood in line for 2 1/2 hours to get it. Fortunately there were assorted beers brought by visitors like me set on the picnic tables in the parking lot, free to sample. 3 Floyd's knows their market well (beer snobs) and lets us bring our own beers for a big outdoor sampling party. Some of us then retired to the nearby Hampton Inn for another tasting and then called it a night. Good times, good times...

Today I FINALLY went hiking for the first time this spring. Usually by May I've already gone a couple of times. About six miles in a bit under two hours was a comfortable pace for the first hike of the season. This time of year is perhaps the best for hiking. A temperature in the 60s is, in my opinion, just right, and in early May the bugs haven't really come out yet, but the trees and underbrush are getting nice and green. It's great.
