Fox fails again

This morning Fox News complained that a man they think will fund the so-called "terror mosque" is the head of the Kingdom Foundation, a Saudi organization, and he supposedly funds radical madrassas all over the world. They claim that since this Saudi man supports the imam who wants to build the community center in Manhattan, it must be bad. The imam must be a radical.

What they didn't say was this Saudi man's name. Why? Because the guy, who's name is Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, is the second largest owner of Newscorp shares next to Rupert Murdoch himself. Seriously. Without saying his name, gee I wonder why, they are demonizing the SECOND LARGEST OWNER OF THEIR OWN COMPANY. Unbelievable. To what idiocy will the people over at Fox News not stoop? We've yet to find it.

/facepalm

p.s. Al Qaeda absolutely hates the Sufis. They are considered apostates. The imam in Manhattan is a Sufi. In fact last month an Al Qaeda attack on a Sufi shrine killed scores of people.

Another comment on the Muslim community center that won't be at ground zero and won't even be visible from ground zero, but people are going nuts about it anyway:

WHY THE F*CK ARE WE STILL TALKING ABOUT THIS SHIT?! There are far, far more important issues going on in this country, yet the news cycles have been completely dominated by this stupid f*cking issue for days on end! Let's talk about our wars or our shitty economy or health care or something that actually matters. Bloody hell. Americans are so easily led away from important issues to focus on trivial bullshit. Why do we even have news networks at this point? Mostly they just shovel shit. OMG! Look at what Britney Spears did today! Wow! Ooohhh... time to check CNN for the latest news on American Idol! Yeah, that's a great use for a news network, updates on a f*cking television show. Damn it all to hell.

Baaa-ah-ah-ah! Baaaa-ah-ah-ah! Feed me more mindless schlock. I hate thinking about stuff. Ow, my balls!

Sad that it's even an issue

The media has been heavily covering the objections to the construction of a Muslim mosque community center two blocks from ground zero in Manhattan. How sad for our nation that it's a controversy at all. Islam did not attack New York on 9/11. A particular group of radical fundamentalists did. We are a nation of many races, ethnicities, creeds, and beliefs. Why are so many here in our great melting pot so willing to give in to bigotry? Polls are saying 70% are opposed to the mosque. Sad.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the Republican party is attacking Democrats over this mosque. As usual the Republican party is perfectly willing to encourage bigotry for their own political gain. It's sick. They are an embarrassment to our nation and I can only be disappointed that so many in my country go along with it.

By the way, there's already a mosque about four blocks from ground zero and it's been there since 1970.

On marriage

My generation was bitterly divided over something that should have been so clear and right. The majority believed that what the judge said, that it was God's plan to keep people apart, and that government should discriminate against peopl...e in love. But I have lived long enough now to see big changes. The older generation's fears and prejudices have given way, and today's young people realize that if someone loves someone, they have a right to marry.

Surrounded as I am now by wonderful children and grandchildren, not a day goes by that I don't think of Richard and our love, our right to marry, and how much it meant to me to have that freedom to marry the person precious to me, even if others thought he was the 'wrong kind of person' for me to marry. I believe all Americans, no matter their race, no matter their sex, no matter their sexual orientation, should have that same freedom to marry. Government has no business imposing some people's religious beliefs over others. Especially if it denies people's civil rights.

I am still not a political person, but I am proud that Richard's and my name is on a court case that can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the family that so many people, black or white, young or old, gay or straight, seek in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That's what Loving, and loving, are all about."

-- Mildred Loving 1938-2008
-- This quote is in reference to Loving v. Virginia, the case that struck down the laws that prohibited mixed race marriages.

Death Biscuits

I bought some Jimmy Dean Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Biscuit Sandwiches. Maybe I should have read the packaging first. Each one of these things weighs just 3.5 oz. Into that little biscuit sandwich, they've managed to pack 330 calories, 29% of the fat RDA, 35% of the saturated fat RDA, 35% for cholesterol, and 39% sodium. I don't usually worry too much about that stuff, but damn! How did they manage to make a 3.5 oz item so unhealthy?

Jimmy Dean Death Biscuits. Catchy, isn't it? I suggest they rename this product!

Tax cuts for rich people > teachers and roads

That's the Republican message to America today. They're opposed to a $26 billion package to help states and local governments do things like keep 140,000 teachers employed and not have to unpave their roads because they can't afford to maintain paved roads. However, Republicans congressmen are for keeping the Bush tax cuts for people making over $250,000 a year. Heaven forbid that the richest Americans would have to pay the tax rate they paid in the 1990's. Oh the HORROR! Maintaining those tax cuts will cost a hell of a lot more than $26 billion, by the way.

Te recap:
Tax cuts for rich people = GREAT
Keeping 140,000 teachers employed and many other services for average Americans = BAD

How do these clowns get any votes at all?
